Create a DUPR Account

Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating is the most accurate and only global rating system in Pickleball. All players, regardless of their age, gender, location, or skill, are rated on the same scale between 2.0-8.0 based on their match results.

DUPR is free and anyone can have a rating. One match result is all it takes to have a DUPR rating, and 5-10 match results is all it takes to have an even more accurate rating. If you’ve ever played in a Pickleball tournament you most likely already have a DUPR rating and can claim your account at mydupr.com or by downloading the iOS or Android app.

Please note, you must play against individuals who have a DUPR rating.

How do I get an Initial DUPR Rating

Below is the process of getting a DUPR Rating. For this to work, you must play against other players who have a DUPR account.  This is why it is so important to encourage your fellow players to sign up for a DUPR account.

If you plan on improving your game, playing in tournaments, and going to the next level, you need a DUPR rating.

  1. The "NR" Phase and What It Means: When you create an account, the DUPR system will initially give you a “NR” rating (No Rating). Think of this as a placeholder, a starting point as the DUPR system begins to gather data about your performance. Once you log your first match, whether it's a singles or doubles game, it sets in motion a carefully designed mechanism to create your initial rating for that match type.
  2. The Countdown Begins: From the moment you play your first match, a timer kicks into action. The essence of this timer is twofold:
    • DUPR patiently waits for 7 days after you play your debut match in the respective format.
    • DUPR diligently observes the type and quality of matches you engage in during this time.
  3. Earning Your Rating: Every match you play in the 7-day span contributes points towards shedding their "NR" status. However, not all matches are weighed equally–some matches provide more information than others based on the rating status of your opponents! The value of a match is determined based on the familiarity of the players involved. Here's the rundown:
    • In a doubles match, you are the only player with a “NR” rating. You will earn 1 Point.
    • In a doubles match, you and your teammate have a “NR” rating, but both opponents have a rating, you will earn 0.5 points.
    • In a doubles match, you have a “NR” rating, and your teammate has a rating, but one of your two opponents has a “NR” rating, you will earn 0.25 points.
    • In a doubles match, and only one of the four players have a rating, you will earn 0.125 points.
    • In a doubles match, where every participant's rating is “NR”, you will earn 0.0625 points.
  4. The target: Accumulate 3 points. Once you do, you’ll be initialized with a rating! If you can’t manage to get to 3 points, you’ll be given a best guess estimate 7 days after your first match is entered, but the more you play the better the estimate will be and the quicker your actual rating will be established.

Bottom-line
: The more DUPR games you play and the quicker you play them, the faster you will get an accurate DUPR rating.

Certified Rating Specialist

The IPTPA Skill Level Rating System is used worldwide by IPTPA Certified Teaching Professionals and Rating Specialists to objectively test and develop the skills and performance of players.  An IPTPA skill-level rating is a straightforward, reliable, and bias free measure of skill that is different from other ranking systems.

To find an IPTPA Certified Rating Specialist in your area, visit this link, Certified Members – IPTPA Pickle Ball Association, and look for those with the "CRS = Certified Rating Specialist" classification by their name.

Self-Rating

Pickleball players may "Self-Rate" themselves. Self-ratings are two digits (for instance, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, etc.). Whether you play in pickleball tournaments or a USA Pickleball member or not, you can have a two-digit self-rating.

As long as you’re honest with yourself – as in don’t give yourself too much credit or be too modest – you can come up with a fairly accurate rating.

Caution, overrating yourself can cause embarrassment!

To help determine your pickleball skill level, use the self-rating system below. Starting from the top, click the "+" sign on the right to read more about each Skill Rating. Find the one that best describes you.
